There are a number of reasons why cancer APPEARS to be more common these days!.

The first, ironically, is better general health care; in the west at least, more people are living well into old age than ever before!. Most cancers are associated with ageing, so - more old people = more cases of cancer!.

With modern diagnostic techniques and screening!., cancers that would not have been spotted in the past are now found through routine screening!.

And of course we hear more about cancer these days in the media!. When we didn't have TV, or the internet cancer didn't get as much coverage as it does now!. And people are more open about cancer, more willing to talk about it!. When my dad got cancer in the 1950s, his mother was really embarrassed because she associated cancer with dirt - I bet she didn't mention it to anybody she knew, as someone in her position would these days!. In those days, and far more recently - many people mouthed the word cancer rather than say it out loud!. Now people discuss it openly - so it appears it's more common!.

But to take breast cancer as an example: breast cancer rates have not changed significantly in the last 20 years!. But many, many people think rates have increased dramatically!.

Cancer isn't new!. The origin of the word cancer is credited to the Greek physician Hippocrates (460-370 B!.C!.), - The world's oldest documented case of cancer is from ancient Egypt, in 1500 BC!. The details were recorded on a papyrus, documenting 8 cases of tumours occurring on the breast!.

In countries where modern health care and adequate nutrition is available, the reason there are more cases of cancer is because people are living longer!. Most cases of cancer are related to aging!. When lots of people people passed away at younger ages from various infections and epidemic diseases that are now treated with antibiotics or vaccines or from strokes resulting from untreated high blood pressure (very common until fairly recently) the normal lifespan was about 60-70 at most with many people dying in their 50s!. Now the normal lifespan is 80-90 and therefore many more people live long enough for their DNA to break down and for them to develop cancers related to aging!.

Also if you smoked for 50 years but were healthy otherwise, 35-50 years of tobacco ingestion is plenty long of a time for the various tobacco related cancers to begin showing up!. Smoking related deaths are currently at near epidemic levels in many countries containing large numbers of past and current smokers!. You can only play Russian roulette with those cancer sticks for so long before the habit comes back to bite you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't think that' s necessarily true!. There are more people in the world, so there are more people that have cancer!. People live a lot longer, so there are more years that you could get it (for example, many many more women used to die in child birth so never made it to the age that you would generally get many cancers specific to women) Just because it wasn't diagnosed as much in the past doesn't mean people didn't have it!. Although people are less healthy today, don't eat properly, and aren't as active!. Who knows!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

The answer is really quite simple !. !. you are noticing people with cancer because they are surviving cancer far longer than they ever did in the past!. Nobody heard of cancer when your grandmother was a kid because people died from it !. !. rarely did anyone survive!. Now you see it everywhere because people are living and speaking out about it!. There isn't more cancer !. !. there are more survivors!. People are living longer with cancer and in many cases being treated early and have a long term remission or cure!.

Nobody noticed cancer years ago because nobody diagnosed with cancer lived long enough for it to become noticed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They don't!.

Information is just far more available today (so you hear about it), plus there are more "later life" cancers because far fewer people are dying of cholera, measles, typhus and farm equipment accidents!.

Cancer rates per 100,000 people are actually declining, and have been for many years!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is because there are so many environmental carcinogens and carcinogens in cigarettes and even food!. Longer life-span does have something to do with it, but you can't ignore the CAUSE of cancer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
