First of all, I'm a patient - not a doctor!. They'll ask you a lot of questions and do standard things like check your blood pressure!. They may take blood samples, or send you to a lab to draw the blood!. They may feel around your thyroid area with their hands!.

You could subsequently have a thyroid ultrasound!. It's painless, just a little uncomfortable when they are pressing the wand over your throat area!.

If they think you have nodules, you may be scheduled for a thyroid nodule biopsy!. It's no big deal, honestly!. You're given a shot (local anesthesia) so you're numb in that area!. You'll feel the needle prick, but it's not bad!. The doctor then takes a needle and kind of jiggles it in the nodules to obtain tissue samples!. You can feel kind of pressure and the jiggling, but not pain - you're numb in that area, remember!?

Even if you have nodules and go for a biopsy, they're something like 95%+ non-cancerous!.

So basically, don't worry about your appointment, okay!? They won't do anything that's more painful than a needle prick (if they draw blood)!. Most patients wind up taking one pill a day for their thyroid problems!.

There are lots of good thyroid information sites!. I've listed a few below!. Google or yahoo "thyroid problems" or "endocrinologist" and you'll get a lot of hits!. I've listed several below to get you started!.

You don't say what you're problem may be, but google hypothryoid (low thyroid hormone levels) or hyperthyroid (high thyroid hormone levels) for more hits!. Once you have a diagnosis, do some online research so you're an informed patient!.

Basically, don't worry about any of this, okay!? It's a hassle if you have to go for ultrasounds or biopsies, but neither one is a big deal to go through!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

For a thyroid patient, you will probably have a full thyroid panel done and likely have thyroid antibodies included in that bloodwork!. S/he may also do an ultrasound to check for nodules and measure the size of your thyroid for future comparisions; your thyroid will also be palpated!. S/he will discuss what symptoms you have been having, how long, and will get a medical history from you!.

Hope your appointment goes well!Www@Answer-Health@Com
