Question: What is normal blood sugar for a child!? is 243 high!?
i just took my 5 year old daughter to b-day party and of course she had cake, ice-cream and a little bit of candy from the pinata!. i know the rest might sound strange, but when we got home she had scratched at a sore on her leg and it began bleeding!. her father is diabetic so she is always asking to enter the blood test as she calls it (which we have never let her do) but since she had a little blood on her leg anyway we thought what the hell!.!.!. we were actually shocked by the reading!.!.!. it was 243! if it wasn't the weekend i would just call her doctor!.!.!. so i thought i would ask and see if anyone is familiar with blood sugar levels in children and did it make a difference that the blood used came from her leg!?!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
well the blood could of been contaminated by the sugars that were on here fingers by scratching her leg or rubbing!.!.I have this problem too with my son!. to watch him closely since his dad has it,I f I were you I would Test her again properly and the next time she eats a lot of sugars test her sugar!.Its sad that doctors look at me like I am crazy when I am worried about my son getting diabetes!. they wont give him the proper test
they tell me that if he becomes lethargic and quits eating then to bring him in!.!.!.lol what when its too late!.!.!.I can relate to your concern and yes Its just like the adult range!. I wish you the best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It may make some difference, but not a lot!. I would check her tomorrow morning while she is fasting!. She should be below 100 fasting!. If she is not, then she definitly needs to go see doctor!. 243, sounds high to me, but she had just had a lot of sugar!. You can also check it 2 hours after she eats and it should be down below 150!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Normal blood sugar is 70-110!. Your child had plenty of sweets!. Ice scream, cake, and candy!. She might have had more than you think!. I would recommend re checking her sugar after 12 hours of fasting!. If the sugar is high, consult with your doctor for further tests!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes, very high!.the blood sugar goals are the same for children as for adults, with a fasting blood sugar of between 80-90 being the preferred range; 2 hours post meal, within a range of 120-140!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yeah, you can't really tell after she has been eating ice cream, cake, and candy!. She must have been on a real sugar high when she got home!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

i'm not a doctor, but sounds a bit high!.!.!.!.even after eating all that sugar!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

We found out my son was Diabetic at age 10 ( we found out his father was a year before that)!.That was 5 years ago!. Watch for signs in your 5 year old, such as going to the bathroom more often, drinking more than usual!. My son started acting strange!. We were out eating lunch and he just didn't want to eat and he was very quiet!. I would check her again when she has a normal meal!. I would assume you are all eating a low carb diet because of her father!. If the reading is above 110, call her doc for a checkup!. They can do tests and find out for sure!.
Good luck, it's not easy having a child with Diabetes!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

the most accurate readings do come from your fingertips, even though you can test other places, so i would wash and dry her hands well and do the test again, the poke is small enuf if you distract her she wont notice!. a normal blood sugar for neone(except pregnant ppl) should be between 70 and 120, if you arent diabetic your body should adjust insulin levels on its own to nething you eat no matter how much sugar it contains, if they are above 130 i would get her in to the doctor just to be safeWww@Answer-Health@Com
