if there is an open sore (even healing), she is very much contagious!. But, it's said that open sores alone do not prevent the spread of herpes--its just less likely that anything will happen when there are no active sores!.

You really have nothing more to go on than using good judgment as well as exercising some tact when dealing with this situation!.

Edit: Antibiotics do not have any effect on Herpes!. I'm pointing this out because of a comment below!. Herpes is a virus!. Viruses can't be killed, or controlled with anitbiotics, AB creams and/or soaps!. A person w/herpes will find simple soap and water adequate for cleansing, not killing off the viruses!. Your only action is to let it run its course, including the healing stages!. However, there is medication that can limit the number of outbreaks as well as increasing healing time!.

It's also important that those not infected become equally careful not to expose their own broken skin to open sores of those infected!. Not all sores on or around the mouth is herpes so kissing someone with herpes, even if it's not active can potentially transfer to someone with pimples, scratches, or any other open wound!.

As for the "excessive oral sex" comment!. It's important to note that genital herpes is different form of HSV1 and can be spread to a persons mouth and face!.

In reality, it can erupt anywhere on the body if it comes in contact with active/healing sores but more importantly, people can have both types of herpes in one location!.

I suggest you advise or even attempt at educating her on the subject as well professional assistance for treatments!. Just remember to be truthful yet sensitive and most of all, tactful!.

Good luck with this!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well u don't have to have sex in order to get oral herpes!. u can get them from just kissing some one or sharing things like drinks, cigarettes, chap stick, lip gloss, utensils with some one that has cold sores!. most people get herpes when they are a chid and get kissed on the face by a relative with cold sores!. so it is kind of easy to get herpes whenu are a child!.
its actually quite common to have as 80 percent of the population has oral herpes (even i have them on my mouth and down south)!. u don't have to be discusted by it!. yes it looks disctusting but she is the same person that u always knew she just has oral herpes!.
she can spread oral herpes to your kids but its more likely to happen when she has a visible sore, symptoms of one or one that is healing!. chances are she knows that she is not supposed to kiss any one when she has a cold sore (if she knows that cold sores are oral herpes)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ok first of all you are disgusted by it!?!?!?

90% of the population have either herpes 1 or 2

Best bet is, you could go to the doctors and ask to be tested, and you would have Herpes1 yourself!. And then you mose a well be disgusted at yourself!.

GET OVER IT!!!!

If your kids don't contract it from her, then they will probably contract if from an aunt, uncle, a kid at school, a friend!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

it's extremely difficult to pass this along to you or your children!.

Herpes is very private and she confided in you!. Please don't make her feel worse!.

I've asked my pediatrician the same question and this is extremely rare to be able to do!. Genital Herpes is not airborne and does not live on the outside very well!. They like warm wet areas which is why they do very well in the genital areas!.

Honestly, I don't think you have to worry about this at all!. And I would tell you as I'm a worry wart like crazy

As far as homer up above, two very enthusiastic thumbs down!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am sorry to hear this!.!.!.be very careful!.!.!.you and your family can get herpes in their mouth, lips, eyes, and nose!. I am a school teacher of teenagers!.!.!.!.I am very careful and keep a bottle of antibiotics hand wash nearby!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You shouldn't feel disgusted!. 80% of adults have herpes type 1!. It is the virus that causes cold sores on the mouth, and most of us pick it up as children - about 60% of kids have it on their mouths by the time they go to high school!.

The problem is that those of us who don't catch it as kids are at a very high risk of catching it as adults, since with so many people being infected, the likelihood is that any partner we have will have a childhood history of cold sores - or simply have the virus and never have had symptoms, which is also common!.

It doesn't mean she has had excessive oral sex!. If she has it genitally, it simply means that she has HAD oral sex!. And if she has it orally on her mouth, it does not mean she has had oral sex AT ALL!. It just means she has kissed someone else with the virus!. Type 1 on the mouth is connected with a casual kiss rather than sexual activity!. It isn't dirty, just common!. For people who have never had cold sores, oral sex with anyone or kissing anyone is high risk!.

Neither I nor my sister caught cold sores as kids like most do!. We both caught genital herpes type 1 by our mid twenties!. My sister was four months into a relationship with a man she later married, and only her second boyfriend!. I was with my first boyfriend, and it was only about the fourth or fifth time I had ever received oral sex!. Though he didn't have a cold sore at the time, he had had them as a child, which meant he had hsv-1 on his mouth!. We thought it was safe when he didn't have one and we were being responsible!.

I take it she has it genitally!? If she has it genitally, it is only infectious through contact with her genitals and cannot be passed by kissing!.

If she has it orally and not genitally - in which case she has only caught cold sores on her mouth - yes, there is a risk she can give your kids oral herpes if she kisses them, but since 80% of adults have oral herpes hsv-1, she is hardly alone!. Will you stop everyone from kissing them!? You cannot know who is infected with oral herpes and who is not since most people are asymptomatic!. The only sensible precaution to take is to not allow anyone with an active cold sore to kiss them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Eww, your sister is gross, tell her to stop whoring around with black folk, they carry every disease known to man!.

Anyways, rubbing alcohol gets rid of cold sores within days with no other treatment necessary!. Whenever it seems to be coming back, tell her to apply rubbing alcohol, and it will keep it from showing!.

Yes she can spread it to your kids, just dont share any drinks with her, and tell her not to liss anybody and wash her hands whenever she touches her face!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
