In order to treat allergy-related nasal congestion you have to treat the allergy and not just the symptom!. So the fact that you are experiencing nasal congestion to the point that you can't sleep means that you do not have sufficient allergy treatment/management!. If you simply have run of the mill hay fever, then many over the counter drugs should be of assistance!. Try one until it works for you with minimum side effects!.!.!.different medicines work differently for everyone, so its hare to recommend one online!. Since we are not in spring (and the pollen count is low), I believe you may have more chronic allergies, like an allergy to pet dander, mold or fragrances!. In this case, an over the counter drug may not be sufficient, since they tend not to be designed for long-term use, may cause chronic drowsiness, or in the case of a steroid, can actual harm you if used to long!. So if you have perpetual allergies, you need to see your doctor, who may decide to refer you to an allergist!.

Next, until you get treatement, you need temporary relief!. Since you mostly have pressure on your right side, I am guessing that you sleep or lie down on your right side!. Turn over in bed to your left side, and you will feel the sinus fluid draining to the other side!. When the pressure seems about the same on both sides, turn to your back!. This IS NOT A SOLUTION, but it will take away some fo the pain!.

If this does not work, or if all day everyday, the pressure is on the right side, you may have some drainage issues!. Some recommnend sinus irrigator, with flushes the fluid into your other nostril!. To me, it sounds scary so I've never used it, but it just may work for you, and if used properly, I think it is safe!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A steroid nasal spray along with allegra D usually takes care of most allergies!. From your description, it's possible that allergy meds aren't working because you have a right-sided sinus infection!. Once sinuses become infected, allergy treatments seem to stop working until the infection is brought under control!. That usually means taking an antibiotic!.

As far as not sleeping, insomnia is often caused by mild breathing difficulty!. If this doesn't resolve with treatment of your congestion, be sure you mention it to your doctor!. Untreated sleep disorders can take years off your life because they contribute to the development of high blood pressure and cardiac disease!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, Allegra-D SUX for me, ZyrtecD was great but now that it is OTC I find that it does not seem as effective, perhaps they modified the formulation in order to get FDA approved!. Take a Benadryl for SEVERE sinus and allergy an hour before bed, you will be knocked out cold!. Tylenol SEVERE COLD AND SINUS for Congestion is a great one to use during the day, and you need a prescription nasal spray such as Nasonex ( I found out that OTC nasal sprays aren't meant for long-term use and doctors advise against it)!. Talk with your doctor and see if they have some new meds that might work and maybe they can give you samples instead of dolling out all that $$$ on Rx that don't work!.
