Question: How risky is having an operation under general anaesthesia these days !? !?
I have a friend who has to have a routine surgery but she is terrified of being under the anaesthesia and I wonder how safe it is!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
what is the routine surgery!.!.!.!.that is important to know!. People's ability to tolerate surgery well is a combination of the procedure type, their general cardiovascular and pulmonary health, and their ability to tolerate anesthesia (which may be related occasionally to liver and kidney function)!.!.!.!.the physician should do something called a "pre-operative evaluation" which takes into account all of these factors!.!.!. the point of the evaluation is to minimize the risk and optimize the patient for surgery!.!.!.!.if the procedure is routine and elective (meaning the patient won't die without it)!.!.!.!.the procedure may be postponed until the patient's overall health status is tweaked!.!.!.!.the anesthesiologist should should also be able to give an appropriate risk assessment!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Any surgical procedure has a risk!. But for a younger healthy person the risk from anaesthesia is very low!. Where a person is at high risk from general anaesthesia then it is not given and some other appropriate method is used!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is more risk with the actual surgery than there is with the anesthetic!.

Before her surgery, she can ask the anesthesiologist as many questions as she would like!. They don't mind having discussions with their patients!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

fairly safe i would say!. I had an op a while back and felt exactly the same, but the doctors and nurses were very helpful in explaining what actually happens!. Hopefully they will do the same for your friend!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

GA will always carry it's risks, this is very dependant upon the medical history, over all health and age of the patient at the time of surgery!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

ive had about 4 operations i think its cool how your put to sleep then looked after just overnight stays kill it get woken up too many times Www@Answer-Health@Com

All operations are risky!. Always will be!. It is not a natural thing for your body to cope with!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If it makes her feel any better I've had four major operations in the last year and I'm still here!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
