Hypo unawareness?!
Question:
Hypo unawareness?
I suffer from hypo unawareness and am wondering how much danger I'm in. Last night my bg was 47 and I treated that, but this morning I was at 57. I am very functional at these levels, but my neighbor passes out at 50. I must add that I live alone and am just worried a little. At what point will I become in danger.
When I checked last night, my only symptom was just having a little hot flash and this morning, there were no symptoms at all.
I know why I went low (too much exercise and not enough carbs), but I just wanted to know at what level do you usually go unconcious.
Thank you.

When I have gone unconscious I have usually been in the 30's but once I was a high as 43. Then I have been fully conscious and tested in the 30's and 20's before so it is hard to tell. I used to have hypo unawareness too. What I did to help it is once I went on the pump I set my blood sugar goals a little higher for a while. I wanted my numbers between 100-150. I would test test test at least 10 times a day and throughout the night as well. Anytime I was under 100 I would treat for a low. Eventually the hypo symptoms came back to me. Now my goals are set between 80-110. I know that running higher sugars for a while put me at a higher risk for complications down the road, however my CDE made a good point. She said, putting yourself at risk for the complications aren't going to matter when your life is ended too soon from dying from a hypo.
