Suspicious mole?!

Question:

Suspicious mole?

I have a very suspicious mole on my back that I need to get checked out by a doctor. If I go on Monday, will the doctor perform a skin biopsy immediately or will he tell me to come back later?
In other words, how fast will diagnosis be

Answers:

It depends on the lab. If he thinks it's suspicious, he may send you to a lab (most doctor's offices do not have labs). It depends on your insurance which lab he would send you to. It also depends on his written order. If he orders a STAT reading, they will do it right away and call him with the preliminary results (cancerous---yes or no?). Then the lab will continue to do further testing on the biopsy---if it is cancerous, they will determine what kind and what stage. Those results would be given to the doctor (or sent directly to the specialist--possibly the oncologist) in about 24-36 hours.

As I say all this----there are a LOT of "IFS" in this situation. Do not get all balled up over this and ruin your weekend. There is absolutely nothing you can do about it and worrying yourself sick for the next 2 days is not going to make your results any different. So CHILL and try to relax.
