I just had one (a PPD) this week. They barely hurt at all, honest! They put a very small needle under the skin (the underside of your forearm). It doesn't go into the muscle or down into the "meat" of your arm. They inject it just under the skin so that it makes a small bubble. 2 days later you go back to get it "read." If that bubble is gone you don't have TB. If there was a reaction on the skin (besides a red dot or bruise) then you get treatment.
It's a cheap test, too.
