What news is that? The truth is NOT being shared with the public. Unless you have a chest X-ray that is clear, then those meds will only clear your cough. FACT: Once you have the tuberculosis virus in your bloodstream, it is there FOREVER. You are at risk for the rest of your life due to the simple fact the TB is an AIRBORNE VIRUS & if you have it lying DORMANT in your body & you are not in good health, then the live airborne virus CAN re-invade your body & you can have ACTIVE TB AGAIN (without knowing it). This is why YEARLY chest X-rays are important for people who test positive for TB using a skin test. Once you have shown a POSITIVE TEST, you should NEVER HAVE THE SKIN TEST AGAIN...only a chest X-ray every year. If you have a cough that will not go away after 3 weeks, you should also get re-examinined. Believe it or not, the street is the safest place for a person with active TB, because they can get FRESH AIR. The shelters are the place that help to spread this disease. Public transportation is also a high risk area, due to the closed & sealed windows. I have lived with active & inactive TB MOST of my adult life. I am now 53 & I must pay close attention to my health at all times. I was also homeless, but in sunny Southern California, & I can tell you that our shelters also have quite a few people with active TB on meds & when I am around these people, I am most at risk to be re-infected if I cannot sleep next to an open window. I was always told to stay away from cold humid climates & so far, it has worked out for me. The public is being short-changed by misinformation regarding tuberculosis. It is running rampant & being kept from the general public. If you HAD Tb, then you will never be "ok", as you have stated. It is a lifelong condition that has serious side effects that show up as you grow older! Your bones & joints are going to disentegrate at a faster pace than people who do not have the TB virus in their bodies. For some reason, these facts are not being shared with the people who need to know these health facts!
