Let me tell you what I know.
We are made up of cells. A cell is the biological and structural entity of our body. These cells are just like us. They are born and become dead after sometime.
the new cells formed when occupy their sites of function push out these dead cells. These grows out as hair and nails.
since these dead cells have no blood vessels or neurons(nerve cells) attached, they do not harm us when cut.
So we do not feel the pain.
