Bleeding under the skin after a cut?!

Question:

Bleeding under the skin after a cut?

I cut myself on an apple cutter two days ago, leaving an attatched flap of skin and the other damaged area beneath. Until last night, I had a band-aid that placed the flap of skin over the cut. The skin fused back into position, but there is a collection of blood under it. Is this dangerous, and what should I do?

Answers:

It will be re-absorbed in due time. It is not too different from what happens when we get a bruise: the blood spilled will change color as time passes until it is gone.

The thing to worry about is tetanus (when did you get your last shot?) and infection. Either would be bad.

Good luck and best wishes
