Inhalation of titanium dioxide?!

Question:

Inhalation of titanium dioxide?

I accidentily inhaled too much of my powdered sunscreen (that has mostly iron oxides and titanium dioxide in it) and its irritating my throat a lot. what can I do about this?
(drinking water isn't helping..)

Answers:

I find that this is not really a terrible item. There are some who believe it definitely is a cancer causer, but most doctors do not subscribe to this.

Basically, for inhalation there is nothing to do but move to a well vented room, and if you have a problem breathing to get to the hospital.

For ingestion or that part which is in your throat, I would suggest milk or some such item to smooth the throat.

Here is what 'they' say:

Potential Health Effects
------------------------------...

Inhalation:
May cause mild irritation to the respiratory tract.
Ingestion:
Not expected to be a health hazard via ingestion.
Skin Contact:
May cause mild irritation and redness.
Eye Contact:
May cause mild irritation, possible reddening.
Chronic Exposure:
Titanium Dioxide may cause cancer in humans. Long-term exposure to titanium dioxide dust may result in mild fibrosis (scarring of the lungs).
Aggravation of Pre-existing Conditions:
Persons with pre-existing lung disease may be more susceptible to the effects of this substance.

First Aid Measures

Inhalation:
Remove to fresh air. Get medical attention for any breathing difficulty.
Ingestion:
Not expected to require first aid measures. If large amounts were swallowed, give water to drink and get medical advice.
