Can anyone help me regarding acne?!

Question:

Can anyone help me regarding acne?

I've had it bad since hitting my early teens. I am now in my early twenties and i still have it bad. I've tried the creams, the masks, the liquids, everything and still nothing works. My mom even took me to a skin doctor when i was fourteen but her stuff did not work either. Any other ideas that i've missed?

To keep your skin clear and healthy, it usually takes more than just washing your skin and/or using a topical acne-fighting cream - it's like a lifestyle change.

First off, in the morning and at night, use an acne-fighting facial cleanser, and a clean washcloth or towel to dry off with. Three common acne-fighting compounds are salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and triclosan. Most acne-fighting medicines you'll find at the store have one of these as the active ingredient. Have you tried all three and found that none of them work? If so, I suggest using a combination, like a face wash with triclosan (Noxema Triple Clean for example), and then a topical cream (at night) with benzoyl peroxide (like Clean&Clear Persa-Gel). Sometimes the combination helps do the trick, but, as I said, it's a lifestyle thing too...

It is important to make sure you shower every day, preferably before bed, because bacteria, oils, and residues from your skin can get in your bed, etc. and get transferred onto your face and cause breakouts. Also keep your hair clean as well, because grease or hair products (hairspray, moose, etc.) can also get on your skin and cause breakouts. I suggest changing your bed sheets pretty frequently as(maybe 2-4 times a month), and maybe even more frequently for your pillow case. You should also take a multivitamin (like One-A-Day), drink lots of water (and no soda or really sugary drinks instead of water), and get exercise several times a week. This will help your body flush its system naturally and prevent further breakouts.

Acne is often genetic and it's sometimes very hard to fight on your own, in which case it's best to see your doctor and get a prescription acne medication, like an antibiotic or topical cream that you apply to your skin. If you tried this when you were younger and it didn't work, it wouldn't hurt to go again. There are so many prescription drugs used to fight acne; just because one didn't help, doesn't mean another one won't. Your doctor can help you find the one that's right for you. There are both topical creams and antibiotic pills.

Also, keep in mind that makeup can help cover up acne during the day and boost your self-confidence. But always, always, make sure to wash it off before bed, preferably right after you get home for the evening.

Keep trying; it's worth it! Best wishes!
