What could cause a decrease in white blood cells?!

Question:

What could cause a decrease in white blood cells?

I went to the doctors for a general checkup and they did a routine blood test. The results came back and the doctor said that I have a low white blood cell count.

Answers:

According to mayoclinic.com, a site I trust, leukopenia (low white count) can be due to the following:
infection
medication (some antibiotics or chemo for example)
autoimmune disorders (such as lupus)
bone marrow disorders such as leukemia
cancer
chemo.
allergic reactions

Sometimes the cause is undiagnosed and the the white count goes back up in a couple of weeks. If the count is VERY low, it can cause severe health problems, so it would need to be investigated.

Hope this helps. If you look up "causes of leukopenia", many trusted sites come up. Don't let them scare you. WebMD and MayoClinic are two very good sources.

Best of health to you!
