Does having high risk HPV mean you will get cancer?!
Question:
Does having high risk HPV mean you will get cancer?
Is it really that bad?
Answers:
By 'high risk HPV' I am assuming you have been diagnosed with HPV and your pap smear came back with high grade dysplasia. If this is so, high grade dysplasia means that the cells in your cervix are extremely abnormal and you need to be watched closely to ensure they don't advance to cancer. Depending on your age will depend on the answer to your question. Typically, women under the age of 30 have good immune systems and atypical cells don't keep regenerating. After a period of time your own immune system fights off the atypical cells and can even fight off the HPV. Notwithstanding, the most important thing for you to do is go for pap smears every 3 months and make sure that if your they continue coming back high risk HPV, make sure your doctor performs a colposcopy to verify the results. Best of luck!
