medicgirl is correct most medicines are safe and effective well past their printed expiration date!. HOWEVER I don't know that albuterol is one that I'd mess with as you could be relying on that inhaler to stop a potentially serious asthma attack, especially since it's available generic!. I think the cash price (if you have NO insurance) around here for one inhaler is like $8, and if you have any Rx coverage you may pay even less!. Skimp on the expired aspirin, cough syrup, Immodium, even the Allegra and Zocor, but NOT on the albuterol!.!.! It could literally save your life!. Just my 2 cents!. BTW don't just rely just on fast acting inhalers - make sure your doctor has evaluated you for use of other medications (like Advair / Seretide) that can greatly reduce or eliminate asthma attacks!.!.!. If you're using albuterol more than twice a week you need to challenge your doctor to consider other treatment options!Www@Answer-Health@Com
All medications have an expiration date printed somewhere on them!.!.!.however medications that are not used by the expiration date are routinely sent overseas to third world countries because the are still safe and effective for 5 years past the expiration date!.!.!.in your case a lot will have to do with how your medication was stored!. Things like exposure to sunlight, heat, and cold affect the expiration date!. My best advise is if you are having an asthma attack right now, use it and if you dont get relief from it go to the emergency room!. If you are just hoping it is still ok for possible future use!.!.schedule an appointment with your doctor for a refill!.
