Will I be able to go on roller coasters and other amusement park rides when I ha!

Question:

Will I be able to go on roller coasters and other amusement park rides when I have mono?Doc's answer only plz!

I was just diagnosed with mono a few days ago and I'm supposed to be going on vacation to an amusement park in two weeks. I know I can't do sports, physical activity, etc., that can endanger my spleen for the next 6 weeks. Will the amusement park rides be too much? Looking for a professionals answer only please!! Thanks!!

Answers:

Some of them subject your body to significant g-forces that could result in splenic rupture as you sound as though you are still in the acute phase I would guess your spleen is enlarged to at least some degree.

Depending on how you actually feel, spending long days in a hot amusement park is probably not the best idea. Your own doctor can provide the best advice as he/she will know the detailed lab results.

It might also be advisable to have your doctor do an ultrasound of your spleen just prior to your trip to determine how enlarged your spleen is, I doubt it will be anywhere near normal in only 2 weeks but maybe you've had mono longer than you knew and you might be closer to normal. Some people with it have only mildly enlarged spleens other can get significantly enlarged... Assume 25% if a mild case and as your spleen gets larges so does the possibility of a rupture... if it were my son/daughter I would not allow them to go on any major roller coaster, too much risk to justify the 2 minutes of thrills on any roller coaster.
