Sore Throat and Hiv?!

Question:

Sore Throat and Hiv?

I have had unprotected oral sex with a man, and now, I have a sore throat. My doctor did mono/strep/thyroid tests, but all came back negative. It mostly starts to hurt a bit, and then the throat just feels like it is being cut up and it is difficult to swallow!Doctor gave me dexamethasone, and that seems to help take some of the pain away, and also at night, I am waking up sweating on my back and neck....could it be the drug the doctor gave me? Should I go and get tested for HIV...plus, I am coughing up crap from my lungs as well! Starting to get quite nervous! Any help would be great!

Answers:

The risk of getting HIV through giving oral sex is low compared with unprotected vaginal or anal sex, but there is some risk. The risk appears to be higher if you have cuts or sores in your mouth. Risk also appears to increase with the amount of your partner's fluids that contact your mouth and throat. If there is blood in these fluids, that probably increases the risk as well.

and how long ago did you take the test? if it was a few days ago, I'd go over there they MIGHT already have them...most places won't give results over the phone....in my case "no news is good news" my doc only calls if something is wrong or abnormal.....good luck i'm sure you're fine though...it takes up to 2-4 weeks for someone to have early symptoms like that.....as far as the night sweats....Could it be that where ever you are it might be hot in your house or apartment? or maybe you're dressed too warmly and using too many comforters?? I woke up the other night drenched----I had on a long sleeve shirt and sweat pants---I changed and was fine for the rest of the night....keep me updated though if you want to talk my SN for yahoo messenger is bigmamarica
