Diabetes help???!

Question:

Diabetes help???

My younger sister was diagnosed with diabetes the day after christmas in 2005. The first few months everything was great and her numbers were almost always around perfect, but recently she has had really high numbers(200-450) during regular eating times and around midnight her sugar drops really low (45-90). We have been to her doctor many times and adjust her insulin intake at least once every 2 weeks, but nothing has changed! She got the pump yesterday and we are hoping to see a difference, but it is too early to tell. I am worried and concerned about her health? Please help? Any suggestions on how to control her sugar?

Also she is just now entering puberty. Can this affect it too?

Answers:

Hormones can affect diabetes too. So with entering puberty it can affect her blood sugar.

What has she been eating?

Okay, so I am older but for the first few months after diagnosis my numbers were really good, then the anger and denial came in and my numbers shot up.

Have patience with her and don't keep bugging her about eating properly. I have a 25 yr old son who if he sees me eating something he thinks I shouldn't, tells me that I am going to die.

This illness is a difficult one for anyone who is older but for a young girl it can be even more devastating.

See if there is a young diabetic organisation where you live. If she meets with other people her age it might help.
