Does anyone have diet suggestions for pancreatitis. What are the best foods to e!

Question:

Does anyone have diet suggestions for pancreatitis. What are the best foods to eat that won't cause pain.?

My mom has been hospitalized with pancreaitis. The dieticians at hospital keep giving her full diets, spicy foods. At least she doesn't eat it. I need to know some diet suggestions so when she comes home. She seems to not have problems when eating chicken noodle soup, eggs, cottage cheese. Are there any veggies she should avoid? Any answers would be greatly appreciated. I checked online and can't get an actual diet anywhere, or good food suggestions. Thanks for your help.

Answers:

The key to your question is what caused your moms pancreatitis?
If it was gallstones- avoid fatty foods. If it was high triglycerides, well, ditto...if it was alcohol, well...you get the idea.
After pancreatitis, I like to tell my patients to start with a BRAT diet Bananas, Rice, Apple sauce, and Toast...it's just a good guideline for easy to digest food that should minimize nausea as your gut may still be moving somewhat slowly as it "recovers" from the pancreatitis. I would also suggest to start with soft or liquid foods and move slowly back to solids (over the next week). Finally I would avoid fatty food for the next two weeks or so, as they tend to be harder to digest and thus may cause some nausea.
At this point, her pancreatitis should be resolved and theoretically she should be able to eat any food without causing a recurrence of pancreatitis...but these foods may be the easiest to tolerate over the next week
