Becker's nevus question?!

Question:

Becker's nevus question?

Do you know if Becker's nevi can turn malignant, and is there any way to get it removed? Mine is on the chest, about 5 inches in diameter. Thanks.

Answers:

A Becker's nevus is benign.

There is just as much of a chance of normal healthy skin "turning malignant" and becoming melanoma as there is with a Becker's nevus developing into melanoma.

So...yes, it can turn malignant...but so can healthy, normal skin. But NO, there is no increased risk in your Becker's nevus becoming malignant (compared with healthy skin).

Does this make sense?

In any event, it could be removed, but given its size, it would be more difficult than a simple excision and suture-up. You'd have to see a dermatologist. And it would be costly...as insurance wouldn't cover it, and such a dermatologic proceedure would be expensive.

But yes, it can be done.
