What is aphtous ulcer? is it really infectious?

my husband has multiple ulcers on his genital area, like little craters with some pus in the center. he has not yet seen a doctor because he's too embarrassed and im afraid i might get infected too. please enlighten me

Answers:

Aphtous ulcers or canker sore is a very common and painful ulceration or local destruction caused by a variety of factors, especially involving the immune system, and is often a hypersensitivity reaction to a food or oral micro-organism. Those are only in the mouth.

If your husband had ulcers with pus in the center that would not be a aphtous ulcer. He should really go and get checked out because a lot of times things are very treatable and even possible to eradicate in the earllier stages but if you wait you run the risk of bad infections or long term damage.

The good thing is that it would not be herpes because of the pus. Pimples/boils on the other hand take two weeks to disappear, also start as big red painful bumps, do contain puss later and bleed after popping. Ingrown hairs are similar to pimples and boils. If you constantly pick, it may turn into a very big bump and last even longer than two weeks.
It would be best if you had this checked by a GP or another doctor, dermatologist or specialist.

Good LucK!
