I had a diverticulitis attack last spring!. It began initially with some uncomfortable bloating on a Friday evening that continued into Saturday!. I have a severe case of fibromyalgia and had been on some pain meds that were kind of constipating me!.
As Sunday came along, I noticed I was even more bloated!. I also started feeling rather tender in the lower left quadrant of my abdomen and thought I had an ovarian cyst!. This became continually worse as the day went on!. By late afternoon, just the motion of pulling my undies down to use the bathroom was excruciatingly painful!. (The area was sooooo tender that the elastic rolling over it was that tender!) It was then that I realized this could not possibly be a cyst as I had never experienced tenderness like this before!
Needless to say, by Monday morning we headed to the ER!. Morphine helped the pain somewhat!. An MRI confirmed the diagnosis!.
It is my personal opinion that it was the constipation that brought on my attack of diverticulitis!.!.!.it caused a backup into the diverticular pouch that I already had in place!.
