How Does your body tackle a cold virus?!
Question:
How Does your body tackle a cold virus?
I have heard that the groggy feeling you get during a cold is actually the result of your immune system battling the virus, is this true and if so what are the symptoms of the virus verses the symptoms of your immune system on overdrive?

The groggy feeling you experience is your immune system fighting the virus. The white blood cells flock to your glands. The reason for this is because the lymphatic system (hormonal fluids of the body) filter throughout in the glands. So, the virus is caught in the glands. White blood cells flock there to destroy the viruses. You can feel the swollen glands when you are sick. That's why doctors check your glands when you see them for flu symptoms.
The fever, though, is caused by fighting macrophages called pyrogens. Once pyrogens reach the brain, they stimulate the fever-increasing center of the brain. The high temperatures of the body denature the senstive proteins in the viruses. This helps rid your body of the infection.
Hope that helps!
