Our bodies change every 7 years. We can be allergic to one thing either by mouth or externally and at a later date be unaffected by it.
Have you moved from one home to another when this started? Water is treated in different Cities differently using different chemicals. Check your Counties water sorce and get the test results as it is your right under the laws if you live in USA.
Does it stop after you dry off? Is a rash left behind? Does the scratching stop? If the first answer is it does stop after your dry, and a rash isn't left behind, and the scratching stops, then you probably don't have to worry or check the water sorce.
Laundry soap: Have you changed from one laundry soap to another? If so switch back to what was used in the past.
Shampoo change: Have you changed from one shampoo to another you've never used before? Since shampoo runs down our body when we shower this could be causing the problem.
Our bodies change: I had this problem too but all of the above wasn't the problem either. Doctors couldn't find the problem. I even went for skin test! Tons of money later without real help and the scratching turing into my skin feeling like it was burning, I changed soap from what we view as a "normal bar of soap" to a glycerin bar of soap. This is easy to find in all stores and it is easy to see if you bought the right one....because you can see through it even if it is colored or has perfume. Don't leave it in the shower tho because it melts quicker and cost a bit more.
The first few times I used it, the itching wasn't there so I didn't feel the need to scratch anymore, but my skin continued to feel like it was burning. Within six months or less, the burning stopped. A year later none of the former problems were present any longer. Now pushing 50 years old, I have healthy skin without problems and can from time to time use regular soap without the return of the old problems ... which is good when I travel if I forgot my personal bar of glycerin soap.
The other benefit is.....no more soap scum build up on the shower walls or glass doors! My oldest son is also a user of the glycerin soap as he started having the same problems 2 years ago. His problem never got as bad as mine because mom knew how to fix it and avoid the severe effects right away.
