Parents of kids with asthma and allergies..I have a question about medications?!

Question: Parents of kids with asthma and allergies!.!.I have a question about medications!?
We confirmed yesterday that my 8 year old daughter has severe asthma!. Her doctor has put her on Advair twice a day, Singulair once a day at bedtime, and ProAir for a rescue inhaler!. My question is for the parents who have had experience with these types of medications!. Did you notice an increase in hyperactivity after they started taking these medicines!? Or any adverse side effects from them!? Like, did their concentration and grades drop, etc!.!.I have spoken to her doctor about all this, but I wanted some input from parents who have been through this before or are still going through it!. Also, she has to go in next week for allergy testing, (which is where they stick the needles on her back!. They are doing 30 all at once) What has been your experience with that!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

We have 3 kids with varying degrees of asthma / allergies!. All have been on the combination of meds you list at one time or another!. The albuterol (Pro-Air) will cause increased heart rate and hyperactivity, but this was never really a problem for us, because you shouldn't be using that more than once or twice a week anyway!. If you are your child's asthma is NOT being controlled by the Advair / Singular and you should go back to your doctor and demand a new course of action!. Sometimes doctors just throw the standard treatment at you and don't pay close enough attention to the specifics of your case(that's your job!.!.!.) Don't let them get away with that YOU HAVE TO BE YOUR CHILD'S Advocate!. Advair has worked great for all of us; I can't remember the last time any of us needed the rescue inhaler while taking Advair!. I'm not aware of any side effects from Advair!. Singular has caused suicidal thoughts in a VERY small % of patients, but I've had a teen on it now for a few years and he's still OK!. I took it for awhile also but it never did much for me so I dropped it!.

The skin prick allergy testing is not a big deal (it doesnt hurt) it's just a long process!. What you'll probably find is that your child is allergic to "everything", which basically means there isn't much you can do!. They'll want to start a regimen of low-dose allergens (some of the ones she is found to be allergic to) to try and desensitive her to some of those allergens over time!. This means shots once a week for months, then gradually extending the frequency to monthly!. I did that for about 3 years and am convinced that it's a COMPLETE waste of time!. We've had good success finding the right combo of meds to control allergies / asthma, but try the shots if you want!. Hope this helps Good Luck!. Feel free to email if you have specific questions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
