How do Pulmonary Arteries and Pulmonary Veins get their names?!

Question: How do Pulmonary Arteries and Pulmonary Veins get their names!?
Hi, I am a Div 2 trainee nurse, and my senior lecturers would like us to see if we can trace back the reason as to how the Pulmonary Arteries and Veins got their name!.

For example, we know that "normal" arteries carry OXYGENATED blood from the heart to the rest of the Body!. And we know that "normal" veins carry DE-OXYGENATED blood back to the heart!. Now the confusing part that we have to find out about is why the Pulmonary Arteries carry DEOXYGENATED blood to the lungs, and why Pulmonary Veins carry OXYGENATED blood back to the heart!.

In simple terms,
"normal" veins = deoxygenated Blood
Pulmonary veins = oxygenated Blood

"normal" arteries = oxygenated Blood
Pulmonary arteries = deoxygenated Blood

Can you get my gist of what I am trying to get at!? And can anyone help me work this one out!?

Why aren't Pulmonary Arteries called Pulmonary Veins, and why aren't Pulmonary Veins called Pulmonary Arteries!. It almost seems that the names of the Pulmonary blood vessels are back-to-front!?!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
ARTERIES carry (pressurised) blood out of the heart
VEINS carry (almost unpressurised) blood back INTO the heart!.

The heart pumps de-oxygenated (spent) blood via arteries to the lungs where it is re-oxygenated and fed via pulmonary veins back to the heart (pulmonary vena cava)!.

From the heart it is then pumped via (systemic) arteries round the arterial system and then BACK to the heart via veins to the systemic vena cavaWww@Answer-Health@Com

Sorry i mixed it up last time lol!.!.!.!.did the opposite!.

Carrying blood to heart = vein (oxygenated or deoxygenated)

Blood away from heart = artery (" " " ")

Now its Simple and Correct :DWww@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, the principle is:
Away from your heart --> the arterial system
To your heart from the peripherals --> the vein system
