Has anyone ever had a Septoplasty. Is it expensive and is there any visible scar!

Question:

Has anyone ever had a Septoplasty. Is it expensive and is there any visible scaring?

I have lived with a deviated septum for years and have been researching some of the symptoms that I never new even related to having a deviated septum including: regular bloody noses, snoring, etc...

If it was relatively inexpensive with no visible scaring I might actually consider it.

(My aunt had some of that surgery done, and she ended up looking very different after, did she get a nose job as well maybe?)

Answers:

It leaves no visible scarring, and you will look no different afterwards if only a true septoplasty is done.

"Septoplasty for deviated septum" often really means the person had a "Nose job".

However, if medically indicated for snoring, breathing difficulties, bleeding, etc. then most medical insurance wil pay for a true septoplasty (in the U.S.)

The recovery is a bit unpleasant, though...as your nose will be jammed packed afterwards...and is uncomfortable until you get that packing out.

Also, you often end up swallowing a lot of blood during the surgery, and some wake up extremely nausious and throw-up what looks like to be buckets of bloods.

But all-in-all, depending on medical indication, costs should be low (if you have medical insurance and only pay the copayment). Otherwise, costs will be extremely high (at least in the the U.S., where medical expenses are sky-high).

Hope this shed some light...
