Should I have a baby and go on dialysis?!

Question:

Should I have a baby and go on dialysis?

My kidneys are very low functioning, and i have been strongly advised by my ob gyn and my nephrologist not to get pregnant because i will have a really hard pregnancy and end up with kidney failure. However, it is my decision, and they have both told me that they would work to help me do whatever I want. Do you think my husband and I can handle a baby while I am on dialysis? I've not done either before, is there any one out there who has?

Thank you Mandie! I think people don't really understand how important it is to have a baby, especially when the possibility is there, I would really do anything. But i'm sure I won't die, I'll be wiped out, but eventually I'll have a transplant. But who knows if I'll still be fertile by then. I know people love their kids, but they don't know what its like. I'm sure I will adopt down the road, in any case.

Answers:

I do not know what I would do! My husband and I have infertility problems. So I think I would do whatever it took to have a baby! Even if I were to die, I would still want to have a child for my husband! I think he would probably disagree with that, but that is my opinion!
