If your diabetic,,,what happends if you dont eat,,?
for example,,i have a family memeber who is diabetic not sure if its 1 or 2,,but they have been worried about family issues ,,,can any one tell me what could happend if they worry thems self and dont eat....i mean really what could really happend
Answers:
Hypoglycaemia if they're on medication...insulin or tablets. Their blood sugar level will become extremely low, they'll become confused, shaky, teary. Their body will produce adrenalin in an effort to make sugar. Eventually there won't be enough sugar in their system to keep their brain awake and they might become unconscious and require hospitalisation and glucagon injections...this really hurts your head and makes you vomit so going this far is best avoided!
The other thing to say is that extreme stress can raise bloodsugar levels quite a lot, eating into your bodies stored energy and creating ketones which are toxic.
...Not a great combination but I understand that it's just not avoidable...been through various horrors myself and it was really hard to keep food down. I did lots of blood tests and even checked my ketone levels. They might still need insulin/tablets even when not eating if the stress is really big. They probably need help from a diabetes specialist or diabetes centre... someone who knows about stress effects on diabetes.
