Toddler Hive Reaction to Amoxicillin? ?!

Question: Toddler Hive Reaction to Amoxicillin!? !?
Hi there,

My daughter is 27 months old and has never been sick! :) Thats the good news, The bad news is that she got a bit of a cold which turned into a minor ear infection, so the doc prescripted Amoxicilling (I"m allergic to it by the way) So we gave it to her - on her third dose, my husband noticed a hive, but didnt know thats what that was (silly boy) so I happened to give her another dose this morning, she has 4 hives on her left leg, but thats it!.

Now the doc said that if there weren't any other hives, and because she doesnt have any fever, is eating, swallowing normal, an dacting fine otherwise, to just skip the dose tonight and see him tomorrow!.

But I"m worried that he will tell us tomorrow to continue the antibiotic and something horrible will happen!. Can you tell me if you know of a hive reaction only being 4 hives and not all over the body!?

Thanks,
A worried mommyWww@Answer-Health@Com

I agree with your GP, you'll have to wait and see him tomorrow, IF she has had an allergic reaction to Amoxicillin it's a low grade allergic reaction she's had!. As there is a family history there (your allergic) it does increase her chances of being allergic!. He may well change to an alternative!. In the meantime if you notice her lips/tounge/throat are swelling and/or she has breathing difficulties then you must take her to A&E immediatly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

if she is allergic, that is a very, very mild allergic reaction and she should be fine waiting until the next morning to see the doctor!. did he happen to mention if you can give her benadryl!? that will help, but if he plans on running allergy tests it will give untrustworthy results like false negatives!. the hives may be from something else entirely!. If the doctor knows anything at all, he will recognize an allergic reaction and will prescribe you something else; or discontinue it period!. I know you must be worried, but I believe that the doctor will advise you for the better!. Good luck, and give your little one my best wishes!Www@Answer-Health@Com
