Am I going to get a heart attack?!

Question:

Am I going to get a heart attack?

I get this sharp, clogged-feeling heart pain on my left side, right where my heart is at.

The pain comes and goes and when I think of it, it comes and annoys me. I am afraid of riding roller coasters, because maybe my heart will stop or something .

I have been to the Dr. before and they have done an EKG test and a scan of my heart, etc., but everything they said was normal. They say they are panic attacks, but they sure don't feel like it. I was prescribed some pain killer medicine which would kill the pain. They said it was some muscle, not heart muschle, spasm, and that there was inflammation. Would anyone know what this really is?

It hurts after eating a heavy meal, Carl's Jr., etc, or drinking energy drinks, or even when I am angry.

I know there are so many sort of chest pains. This one I get really worries me.

It's sharp and I feel I can't move quickly.

Answers:

I really wouldn't trust Yahoo answers over your doctor's recommendations, especially since you have had a normal EKG.

But, if you are having a heart attack, you will likely have left-sided chest pain that is very, very severe. It is not an annoying pain, it is severe, scary pain. Typically, the pain of a heart attack is constant and feels like pressure, like an elephant is sitting on your chest. It may radiate up your neck, or to your left shoulder. If you are having a heart attack, you may sweat a lot. You may also be breathing faster as well. The pain will usually be so severe that you will not be able to do anything except lay down.

If you smoke, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes, you are an increased risk of having a heart attack. Also, if you are diabetic, you may not have the typical symptoms of a heart attack. Panic attacks are often mistaken for heart attacks. Your pain is probably musculoskeletal, since it is sharp, intermittent, and makes you feel like you can't move like normal.

I hope this alleviates your fears. I would trust my doctor if I were you.
