How did u get good control?!

Question: How did u get good control!?
I'm a type 1 diabetic with very poor control!. In fact i've been in hospital a total of 3 admissions this year with DKA!. My problem is that i'm fairly newly diagnosed and i have a sort of eating disorder where i use lack of insulin to lose weight!. I guess the real question is my special nurse has asked me to change small things one at a time, does anyone have any suggestions which thing i change first!? I don't check my levels, and don't keep a diary!. I'm on that DAFNE (dose adjustment for normal eating) regime!.

Thanks in advanceWww@Answer-Health@Com

Hi!. I understand what you are thinking about ketones, but please don't confuse the process of ketosis involved in an ultra low-carb diet with diabetic ketoacidosis!.

I'd really suggest that the thing you do first is talk with others who understand low-carbing, if that's your personal choice, in the context of T1 diabetes and know all about Dafne (and probably support any feelings you may have that it pushes the carbs rather too much)!.

If you have a look at http://www!.diabetes-support!.org!.uk/ and then look at the forum I'm sure you'll find lots of useful information!. There's even a GP there who advocates getting excellent blood glucose control with low carbing!. (Sorry, but the key to making it work will involve testing and recording, but that will be to help you achieve what you want!.)

If you do decide to join in, I think you'll find the people there very sympathetic and knowledgeable!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sadly, you know how to get good control, but are choosing not to use the tools you have!. Check your glucose levels!. That's not optional!. You need to use a log book to detect patterns so that you are using the correct amount of insulin!. Don't you feel just awful with DKA!? Proper diet and exercise are more reasonable ways to control your weight!.

So the answer to you question - first and foremost take your insulin as direted!. That is absolutely critical!. Second - you must check your sugar levels and keep a log book!.

Your health is in your hands!. Please follow your doctor's and nurse's instructions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
