Nobody knows what causes most of the 200+ diseases that come under the umbrella title of cancer!.
Smoking has been definitely linked to lung and some other cancers!. Excessive sun exposure has been definitely linked to skin cancers, The HPV virus, which is sexually transmitted, is linked to cervical cancer!. People can get all these cancers without the known risk factor though!.
And up to 10% of cancer cases are hereditary!. Apart from that we're still pretty much in the dark as to what causes cancer!. It affects the healthy and the unhealthy alike, and it's not known why of two people with the same lifestyle and risk factors (or lack of them) one will get cancer and one won't!.
Whenever someone asks this question there is at least one answer - always from someone who hasn't had or studied cancer - saying that bad diet is a cause!. It's sometimes less frightening for some people who haven't had cancer to blame the victim in this way - if they keep telling themselves that cancer is due to avoidable lifestyle factors like diet (or lack of exercise, or stress etc) they won't have to face the fact that it's a largely random disease that can strike anybody at any time!.
The truth is there is no food or diet that has been proven to cause (or protect against, or treat, or cure) cancer!.
The risk of most cancers increases with age - the overwhelming majority of people diagnosed are over 65!.

i'm not sure how, it kinda just happens!. I know it genetic too!. My dad is very healthy otherwise, never smoked/drank, hes active not overweight n he got prostate cancer!.
none of my relatives who passed from cancer smoked or drank but my mom got cancer n died at 48, my grandma bladder cancer died at 93, my aunt is about to die, think shes nearly 70 n my other aunt died in her mid 40s!.!.!.she didnt smoke but she died of second hand smoke lung cancer!.
I have personally known dozens of ppl with cancer who survived tho!. Its tragic n seems to happen randomly!. :(
