Kids and Hepititis C!?
I have a friend living with me and she has Hepatitis C, She shares a bathroom with my kids who are 4 and 7 years old!. Should I worry about them contracting the disease!?

I disagree with Linda (it doesn't happen often)!.

There is no reason to have your children and your HCV+ friend use a different bathroom than your kids!. I am sure your friend is well aware of the possibility (which is statistically very small) of transmission!. I am sure that she would keep any razors or toothbrushes out of reach!.

Having them share different bathrooms would most likely be an affront to your friends dignity!. The risk of transmission is quite remote in this setting and only further stigmatizes your friend, and misinforms your children (when and if they learn of her status)!.

Hope this helps

Hep C is transmitted by blood, and can remain on items such as razors and toothbrushes (which could both get blood on them) for up to 4 days!. Because one of your children is so young, I would have the kids use a different bathroom to eliminate the risk of your child picking up your friend's razor and getting cut, or picking up her toothbrush and using it!.
Hep C is not spread by casual contact!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
