Herpes question?!

Question:

Herpes question?

I have a cold sore on my mouth which is in the recovering stage, I believe. If I kissed a guy and he gave me oral sex, could I get genital herpes if I passed him my cold sore? Or are the two completely different.

He didn't have a cold sore on his mouth at the time of the oral sex. I guess what I'm asking is, if I did somehow give him the virus to get a cold sore or the makings of one, and he gave me oral sex, could the cold sore virus turn it into genital herpes, the kind where you have outbreaks that never really go away?

Answers:

The basic answer to your question is no. You have a cold sore on your mouth so I am going to assume that you have the herpes simplex virus type one and not type two, though it is possible to have type 2 on the mouth. Anyways, so if he kisses you and you give him the virus then he has herpes type 1 like you. Then if he performs oral sex on you, he can not give you herpes type 1 again because you already have it. Your body becomes immune to herpes type 1. It is still possible to contract herpes type 2, but you can not get type 1 on the genitals. I hope that I have helped.
