Is it normal for a cyst to be filled with blood?!
Question:
Is it normal for a cyst to be filled with blood?
I have an orange sized cyst on my ovary. I know cysts are "fluid" filled...but what kind of fluid? My doctor said mine was filled with blood...is that normal?
Answers:
The "sheepdog" is correct. Cysts can be filled with clear tissue fluid, mostly protein; or blood; or pus and can have combinations like blood and pus or serous fluid and blood. There's no "normal" content for a cyst.
The doctor may have done an ultrasound (I would expect so) in which case blood can be detected in sonography and particularly in a cyst this size.
