Hi Angie ,In answer to your first question,a normal life span!.When you say there is an irregular rhythm do you know what it is as a pacemaker can give you an irregular rhythm!. How much oxygen are they on and how is the hospital treating the congestive heart failure, are they receiving any IV medications, inserted any invasive lines, they would of given her a diuretic and most important how much urine has she produced since receiving the diuretic!. Have they done arterial blood gases to check thr oxygen level in her blood!. Has she had a heart attack and is that the cause of the congestive heart failure and what preexisting medical problems does she have!? When patients present in congestive heart failure they can be quite sick, of often critical,it's how they respond to treatment that determines the outcome, take care Angie you can email me if the information or if you have any more questionsWww@Answer-Health@Com

My mom went through the same exact condition as your friend!. She was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure in early July and had Open Heart Surgery 3 weeks later and was in the hospital for 11 days after the surgery!. During that time she had a pacemaker implanted in her, had several tests, got a blood clot in the arm, and had atrial flutter and fibrillation!. She is on a lot of medications and she is still in a flutter and fibrillation, she is taking about 10 different medicines a day and her heart rate is still irregular, but somebody with a pacemaker should live a normal life!. I hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Since she is already in the hospital, i guess the attending cardiologist will be good at attending to the case management!. but meanwhile, if would like to have extra infomation on heart disease management without the use of drugs see http://healthywize!.blogspot!.com/2008/09/!.!.!. and have good information on why drugs are gradually being withdrawn from heart disease manangement as this tries to stabilised the patients!. she will be ok, just be confident and do not stress yourself too muchWww@Answer-Health@Com
