Bacteria or virus not gone away?!

Question:

Bacteria or virus not gone away?

Three weeks ago I had a fever of 102.... but I never went to the doc and took motrin for my fever that came and went for about 3 days. (Yes I know I shouldve gone to the doc) It turned into a horrible nasal infection, with tons of dark yellow mucus, a stuffy nose and a sore throat. Now, 3 weeks later, I still have congestion with dark yellow mucus but no fevers or body aches but I still feel a little weak. Does this mean that the bacteria or virus has not gone away, even if I feel better? Could it be harmful to me, even fatal if I do not get antiboitics for it? Or should I be ok without? (Serious answers only please.)

Answers:

You have a sinus infection. This is a bacterial infection and needs to be treated with antibiotics. It will not go away on its own. Infact, if left untreated, the mucous you are seeing coming out of your nose can actually drip down your throat and end up in your lungs. This will lead into you getting bronchitis. If the sinus infection and bronchitis are left untreated, you could end up with walking pneumonia. Anytime you see a yellow/green mucous, it is a BACTERIAL infection and needs to be treated.
