Herpes Simplex Virus 1 & 2 (HSV 1&2) can both cause cold sores around the mouth, but it is usually HSV 1 that tends to cause oral cold sores and HSV 2 tends to cause genital sores!.

Try taking the amino acid lysine (from your health shop) when you have an outbreak!. Topical antiviral creams are also effective!.

Take a mega-dose of L-Lysine, about 3000mg which is 6 500mg tablets!. Your cold sore will be gone within 24-48 hours and you will have no scar and not get a recurring sore for quite a long time!.
Always be sure to keep L-Lysine around for later just in case!. Also, add extra L-Lysine to your daily vitamin regimen!.

Cold sores are not a "sign" of herpes!. They ARE herpes!. However, they are genetic!. You either have a predisposition to them or you don't!. I've been getting them since I was a baby!.
