Is there a way to prevent exzema?!
Question:
Is there a way to prevent exzema?
Other than hydrocortizone cream or doctors prescription?
Answers:
Atopic dermatitis (eczema) is not curable. Outbreaks can be prevented or their severity can be lessened.
1. Use mild soap (Dove and Ivory are good choices) and warm, not hot water, to wash yourself. Pat dry gently with a towel.
2. Use moisturizer. Interestingly, many dermatologists recommend a greasy moisturizer such as petrolatum (Vaseline). Your moisturizer should have very few ingredients (less irritants!) and no perfume or dyes.
3. Use hydrocortisone cream SPARINGLY on eczema. It should only be used during a very troublesome outbreak, and should be discontinued as soon as the outbreak lessens.
4. If your physician prescribes a topical (on the skin) medication, use it exactly as directed. Elidel is a good prescription medication for eczema, but there have been many concerns about its short-term and long-term adverse effects.
The National Eczema Association has an excellent article about this condition at http://www.nationaleczema.org/lwe/abouta...
