Why is the cervical cancer jab only offered to 12-13 year olds on the nhs?!

Question: Why is the cervical cancer jab only offered to 12-13 year olds on the nhs!?
Answers:
Because they have to start somewhere!. Girls in Britain aged 12/13 (year 8) are being offered the HPV vaccine from this month!. As younger girls reach year 8, they will be offered the vaccine too!.

There will be a 2 year 'catch up' programme starting in Autumn 2009, to vaccinate girls up to the age of 18!.

Narkness is correct, it is to get in before most girls are sexually active!.
it can be given up till the age of 26th birthday, after that it is felt that most girls would have been exposed to many types of cervical viruses and is of little use protecting them!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

They are being done in school to make sure more girls get them because if they were to be done at the gp then parents would have to arrange this themselves some might forget or not have time to arrange this!. Im not sure when / how older people 18+ get vaccinated try looking on nhs direct website to find out!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The idea is to give the girls the jab before they become sexual active, or aware for that matter!.

I'm not sure what country you are in, but it's free until you are 25 over here in Australia-land!.
