Dorsal root ganglionopathy?!

Question:

Dorsal root ganglionopathy?

please can anyone tell me what this is, as my mums doctor suggest she might have it, and any cure if known or a way to help stop the pain, thanks in advance

Answers:

Your dorsal root ganglion is located next to your spinal cord and is involved in transfering information from skin touch and pain receptors to your brain.

The suffix -pathy means disease.

I think your doctor is using a different term for neuropathic pain. This is a pain caused by inflammation or damage to your nerves. It is very difficult to treat and there isn't really a cure.

There are lots of different ways to try and treat the pain. Your doctor can prescribe your mum lots of different tablets to try, or if your mum prefers she can try accupuncture, or a tens machine.

Your mum should ask your doctor to be refered to a chronic pain specialist who will be able to discuss in length about the various treatments available to her.
