Question: I have trichotillomania and i dont know how to fix it!.!?
I am starting to get really big bald spots!.
I am 17 years old and have had this since i was about 12!.
I wasnt really bad at first and now i am pulling hair out w/ both hands at the same time!.
I want to stop
i tell my self to stop
and when i think about stopping i feel the urge to to pull one!.
i play with it first and twist it because it feels good!.
I also like to find the ones w/ the roots and eat them!.* If you are going to be mean please dont respond*
I am also bipolar and i dont know if that has something to do with it!.
I cant even wear my hair down now because the hairs growing back stick out!. I have to put it up and cover the spots w/ other hairs!.
I am going to try and maybe wearing gloves because then i cant feel the hair when i play w/ it and maybe i will stop~

Answers:
I`m sorry to say that what you have (Trich) is a medical mystery that at the present has no cure!. People just learn to cope with it as best they can, some wear wigs, some get hair extensions and hair plugs!. Others have tried keeping their hands occupied with different tasks, some wear gloves and wrap their hair in scarves when going to bed!. Other people pull out their eyebrows and lashes!. There are support groups throughout the country that have helped people cope, I don`t know where you are located, but perhaps you could look into that aspect!. Some have overcome it on their own!. I hope you are one of those too!. There are many people with this affliction, you are not alone!. Why not join a group on the internet with the same disorder as you have and see how they manage, it might give you some comfort!.
Just Google your ailment and it will take you to medical sites as well as peoples comments!. Good luck to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Are you seeing a therapist or on medication!? If you're on medication and still doing it, then maybe your meds need to be adjusted!. Don't let this go, get some help with it!.

I have a friend with obsessive-compulsive disorder (really bad)!. It took some adjusting to get his symptoms under control!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

hhhhheeeeey!.!.!.!.

i have it since is was 12 and im older and i still have it!. not so bad though !

i get it usually when i read!. and when i start up i will try to get my hands to type something like this and distract myself ! :)

never been prescribed for anything though it has been bad!

:)

forget all these people blaming bipolar and ocd, its not any of that!. its no ones fault!.

i had really bad bald spots omg!. both hands yup!.

when you have the urge, or a few i tell myself lets start typing about this and get it out instead of taking it out on the hair !

about playing with it, it feels good but it will feel more shittty when you have nomore hair !

dont eat your hair, i have permanent dental scars!. if you continue to eat your hair follicles, you will begin to notice it ;)

bipolar, dont let these other people tell you what you have!.
dont wear gloves!. treat yourself to really nice shapoo and tell yourself you deserve nice hair, and go change your hair colour, make yourself proud of your hair!. wash your hair!. do all that and im sure you wont want to pull it out if you spent 150 at the salon! its totally psychological i tell you!

Have you ever tried getting a doll with longer hair, maybe pulling it's hair out would satisfy the urge enough!. Keep your hair up, and maybe look into wearing hats which would further protect your hair!. And look for other ways to keep your hands and mind busy!. Crossword puzzles, sudoko (my personal favorite), crochet!. I have serious problems with biting my nails and those are some of the things that I do at peak times!.

And seriously reconsider seeing another counselor!. I have gone to several, which is enough to know that not all of them are perfect for everyone!. Everyone needs to find out that works for them, and some of them are better at certain issues!. Do some research for someone who specializes in this disorder!.

I had a good friend in grade school that started pulling her hair out when her parents announced their divorce, so I am assuming it is stress related!. Look into stress reducing activities such as yoga or meditation!. Get lots of exercise!. A lot of times when we don't burn enough physical energy we get an over abundance of mental energy which can lead to stress and nervousness!.

Like most emotional disorders, there isn't a simple cure/fix!. It is going to up to you to become informed on how to manage it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
