Question:

I have a St. Jude pacemaker Victory DR Model 5810. About four times a day i can feel it beat four times in a?

row. Does anyone know why? As far as I know it does not have a defibulator on it.

Answers:

I don't think it is your pacemaker, rather I think it is the bottom of your heart jumping into non-sustained ventricular tachycardia. This is why the respondant-above's physician was concerned. It can be a harbinger or marker for other things.

When your pacemaker works, it is extremely rare (I've heard of one patient out of thousands who could accurately detect when the pacemaker was working) to be able to detect it. The voltage is tiny and it should not make your heart beat differently than your normal beat.

Do discuss this matter with your cardiologist at your first opportunity (this week). When you are having these hard beats, if you feel short of breath, have chest discomfort, break out in a sweat, feel nausea. or like you are going to faint or do faint...alert those around you so they can immediately summon 911.

Good luck.

P.S. You are correct, your model of pacemaker does not have a defibrillator function.
