Should I take this medication?!
Question: Should I take this medication!?
Hi,
I've had very oily skin and mild acne for at least 15 years!. About a year ago I noticed uneven pigmentation appearing on my face, particularly on my forehead (I have very pale skin - the marks I have are a light brownish colour)!.
After visiting a skin clinic where a specialist nurse viewed my skin using a woods lamp, she recommended I visit my doctor to get a referral to a dermatologist as she said I had melasma!.
I did visit my doctor this week to ask for a prescription for Retin A gel to improve my acne!. I also asked about the uneven pigmentation, and after admitting that he knew very little about skin disorders he said he thought I could have pityriasis and so prescribed a 1 week course of Sporanox for me!.
I'm not sure whether to take the medication as I really don't believe this is what I have!. My symptoms don't seem to fit with what the doctor said ( I did tell him this) and also what I have read!. I first noticed the uneven pigmentation after sitting in the sun on holiday - after only an hour I had brown patches on my forehead!. (I do avoid the sun now and always wear spf 45)
I don't want to take a medication unnecessarily - pityriasis, from what I've read, seems to improve in the sun and also the images I've looked at don't look like what I have, as it seems to cause lighter patches to appear on the skin and mine are definately darker!.

Answers:
I think you should consult a specialist who actually has experience with the kind of symptoms you're experiencing!. It seems to me that the doc just kind of "gave it a shot" and that's really not sufficient reason to prescribe medication!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
