Is modified corn starch gluten free?!

Question:

Is modified corn starch gluten free?

I have just been diagnosed with celiac disease and have to read all ingredients. This is taking up a lot of time and not easy to eat what I want. The ingredients on labels of food are very difficult to always tell if it is bad for me or not. Please can you help? Thanking you for helping me to eat.

Answers:

Yes and no. Sorry its not that simple!! :)
In the US, if its modified FOOD starch they MUST say if it contains wheat. Modified CORN starch is usually considered safe on the GF diet.
Thankfully labelling laws are getting better but we're not there yet.
In the meantime, check out these books and sites for mroe help--you'll get used to it I promise!! And feel free to email me for private help.
