Answers:
Shingles is caused by the the varicella virus, same virus that causes the chickenpox!. That virus belongs to a family of viruses known as herpes viruses-there are many different kinds including herpes simplex I and II which cause cold sores and genital herpes!.

Basically, shingles occur after someone gets the chickenpox!. In some people, this virus will become dormant in live or basically "hang out" in one of the dorsal nerve roots!. At some point, stress, medication or some other circumstance that wears down the immune system creates a situation in which the virus "wakes up" and causes symptoms!. These are usually very similar to chickenpox, particularly generalized fatigue, malaise and sometimes fever!. The blisters tend to show up specific patterns that correlate with the skin that is innervated by the particular nerve root that the virus is hanging out in!. Usually, the treatment is antiviral medication!. Theres no "cure" per se and people can have flare ups from time to time if circumstances are right!.

Shingles is not related to sexual activity though the virus that led to the initial chickenpox infection can be spread through respiratory droplets and other forms of contact!. Since theres a lot of fluid and skin to skin contact going on during sex, theres not reason why varicella couldn't be spread at that time but its certainly not a sexually transmitted disease in the usual sense any more than the common cold would be if you got it from a sexual partner!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You have to have chicken pox before you can get shingles!. Shingles is a type of chicken pox and it can actually be caught by people that have shingles!. Chicken Pox is actually a type of herpes virus and as with all of them lies dormant in the body forever!. Low immunity, stress, etc!.can make the virus go active as shingles!. It has absolutely no relationship to sexual activity whatsoever!. Anyone that has ever had chicken pox and get shingles!. Supposedly they have a vaccine now that will prevent shingles as well as chicken pox!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

shingles is a reactivation of chicken pox!. after going through a chicken pox infection the virus is not completely eliminated from the body but will stay latent in nerve ganglions of the body!. it can then reactivate any time later in life and cause a skin infection in the area the nerve from the ganglion innervates!. it could possibly infect somebody with chicken pox if that person hasn't had that infection yet and comes in close contact with the pox (it's by far not as contagious as the actual chicken pox)!.
so it doesn't have anything to do with sexual activity at all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Shingles is the reactivation of the herpes zoster virus, which is the same thing that causes chickenpox!. After you have chickenpox, the virus become dormant in your spinal nerve cells and can reappear anytime in your life when your immune system is surpressed by physical or emotional trauma or a serious illness!. The symptoms generally include slight fever, chills, upset stomach, chest pain, red rashes, and tingling, itching skin!. Additionally, a person with shingles cannot communicate shingles to another individual, which would include having sex with them to spread it, so no, it is not an STD!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
