What to do about a large infection?!

Question:

What to do about a large infection?

I know I know - GO TO THE DOCTOR

Beyond that - what else? Is there any natural remedies for infection?

I have had a reoccurring pilonidal cyst and I am quite familiar with it. I have gone to the dr before and they usually give me antibiotics and lance. I have also previously had the surgery.

When I have had small abscesses in the past, I just used tea tree oil, warm compresses and eventually it oozed out and cleared up.

But this time the infection is spread around the top of my butt and seriously when considering the whole area is like the size of I would say a grapefruit.

Not pleasant and sorry for the details. LOL

Anyway is there anything I can do to help this healing along without going to the ER? Thanks :)

Answers:

i feel for you because i've seen the terrible pain these cysts cause.
i live in the deep south and have heard many an old wives tale about what to do when the cysts occur. one older woman took the thin membrane from a boiled egg and placed it on the cyst. it caused it to come to a head and drain much quicker.
i worked for a time in an old fruit and vegetable curb market and the older black people would buy golden seal root and take it home and boil it and drink the tea, they claimed it "cured what ailed ya".
you can buy the echinacea and golden seal root at walmart but as i've heard it is nothing like the real root itself.
another thing that helped my friend (we drove a truck together) was when the cyst was gone she used a hair remover on the area which is the same as what you describe and then cleaned it with betadine and witch hazel wipes. it worked but she had to be consistant.
Good Luck! hope you find relief.
